After having opened a page on MySpace, Israeli diplomats in the United States are continuing to reach out to a younger audience. According to some reports, 80 per cent of under-21 North Americans get their news updates from late-night television shows, such as David Letterman and Jay Leno. Danny Gillerman, Israel's ambassador to the United Nations, therefore appeared this week on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, an Emmy-winning TV comedy show. In an interview that, at times, was like watching Borat at work, the show's John Oliver asked the ambassador about Israel's nuclear weapons and whether it was true that Israel was a country run by Jews, as the antisemites claim. The "highlight" of the interview was the ambassador reading from a mock pornographic screenplay that Oliver asked him to pass on to his Jewish friends in Hollywood. Take a look at the clip and see whether you think it helps Israel's image.
